Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about SENScribe and creating Student Support Plans.
About SENScribe
What is SENScribe?
SENScribe is a writing tool for Irish teachers that turns your everyday classroom notes into structured Student Support Plans. You type what you've observed in plain language, and SENScribe rewrites it using the kind of professional phrasing the Department expects - in English or Irish.
How is this different from just using ChatGPT?
ChatGPT doesn't know the Irish system. SENScribe is built around the Continuum of Support, uses Department-aligned language, and formats everything so it's ready to paste into Aladdin or VSware. Privacy checks are built into every AI request.
Is this the same as an IEP writer?
Similar idea, but built for Ireland. In the UK and US they use IEPs (Individual Education Plans). Here we use Student Support Plans under the Continuum of Support. SENScribe follows the Irish framework, not the UK or US one.
The Continuum of Support
What is the Continuum of Support?
It's the Department of Education's framework for supporting students with additional needs. There are three levels: Classroom Support (everyday strategies by the class teacher), School Support (more structured help, often with the SET), and School Support Plus (for complex needs, usually involving outside professionals like NEPS).
How does SENScribe match the three levels?
When you pick a level, SENScribe adjusts the tone and language. For Classroom Support, you'll see phrases like 'may benefit from' and 'differentiated approaches'. For School Support Plus, it uses stronger language like 'requires individualised support' and 'specialist intervention'. It matches what inspectors and NEPS expect to see.
Does it cover all the sections of a Student Support Plan?
Yes - Strengths and Interests, Priority Learning Needs, Targets, and Strategies. These are the four sections you need. SENScribe fills them all using the observations you provide.
Data Privacy & Security
Does SENScribe store student data?
Your saved Student Support Files are encrypted on your device before storage, so SENScribe cannot read them. Before each AI request, SENScribe checks and redacts personal details in your browser. You can read the full technical explanation in our Privacy Whitepaper.
Where is everything stored?
Student data is encrypted on your device before storage; the encrypted database is hosted in an Azure EU/EEA region and AI processing uses the EU data zone. A small number of operational providers (such as transactional-email and analytics fallbacks) may process limited data outside the EEA; these are listed in our Providers & Sub-processors register.
Is it GDPR compliant?
SENScribe supports your school's GDPR responsibilities with on-device encryption for saved Student Support Files, browser privacy checks before AI processing, and clear documentation for school review. Your school remains the data controller and can review the full Privacy Whitepaper before use.
Can I use it on my school network?
Yes. SENScribe works in any browser - Chrome, Safari, Edge. There's nothing to install. Share the Privacy Whitepaper with your Principal or IT coordinator if they need to approve it first.
Using SENScribe
How do I use it?
Type your notes about a student the way you'd tell a colleague - 'struggles with reading, gets upset easily, good at maths'. Pick the support level, click generate, and you'll get a full draft plan in about 30 seconds. Review it, tweak anything you want, and copy it into your system.
Can I paste it straight into Aladdin or VSware?
Yes. The output is plain text that copies cleanly into Aladdin, VSware, or whatever system your school uses. No weird formatting or character limit issues.
Do I still need to check what it writes?
Always. SENScribe gives you a strong first draft, but you know the student. Read through it, adjust anything that doesn't feel right, and make it your own before it goes into the file.
How many plans can I create?
