Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about SENScribe and creating Student Support Files.

About SENScribe

What is SENScribe?

SENScribe is an AI-powered drafting tool built specifically for SETs (Special Education Teachers) and Irish primary and post-primary school teachers. It creates Student Support Files in English or Irish, aligned with the NEPS Continuum of Support framework, transforming your informal observations into professional, inspection-ready language.

How does SENScribe differ from generic AI tools like ChatGPT?

SENScribe is specifically built for the Irish education system. Unlike generic AI, it uses NCSE terminology, aligns with NCSE guidelines and the Continuum of Support framework, and formats output for Irish school management systems like Aladdin and VSware. Generic tools can produce language that's inappropriate for Irish inspections.

Is SENScribe an IEP writer?

SENScribe creates Student Support Files following the Irish NEPS Continuum of Support framework. While 'IEP' (Individual Education Plan) is common in the UK and US, Irish schools use Student Support Files aligned with NCSE guidelines. SENScribe is built specifically for Irish requirements.

The Continuum of Support

What is the NEPS Continuum of Support?

The Continuum of Support is a framework developed by NEPS (National Educational Psychological Service) for identifying and responding to students' additional needs. It has three levels: Classroom Support (Level 1), School Support (Level 2), and School Support Plus (Level 3). SENScribe generates appropriate language for each level.

How does SENScribe align with the three support levels?

When you select a support level, SENScribe adjusts its language accordingly. Level 1 uses phrases like 'may benefit from' and 'differentiated approaches'. Level 3 uses more intensive language like 'requires specialist intervention' and 'individualised support plan'. This ensures your documentation matches NCSE expectations.

Does SENScribe cover all areas of the Continuum of Support?

Yes. SENScribe generates content for Pupil Strengths, Priority Learning Needs, Targets, and Strategies/Interventions. These are the four key sections of a Student Support File. All content aligns with NEPS guidelines and uses objective, needs-based language.

Data Privacy & Security

Does SENScribe store student data?

No. SENScribe uses a zero-knowledge architecture - student names are detected and replaced with anonymous placeholders like [PERSON_1] entirely within your browser, and specific diagnoses are generalised to functional descriptions (e.g., 'ADHD' becomes 'attention regulation needs'). Our servers literally cannot see student names or specific conditions because they are never transmitted. The real names and original diagnoses exist only in your browser's memory and are restored locally when displaying the final output. We do not store any student information or generated documents.

Where is my data processed?

Student names and specific diagnoses never leave your browser - names are replaced with anonymous placeholders, and conditions like 'ADHD' are generalised to functional descriptions like 'attention regulation needs' before transmission. Only anonymised, generalised text is sent to our servers. AI processing uses Azure OpenAI within the EU data zone, and account data is stored in Azure Cosmos DB in North Europe (Ireland). No identifiable student data ever leaves your device.

Is SENScribe GDPR compliant?

Yes. SENScribe exceeds standard GDPR requirements with our zero-knowledge architecture - student names and diagnoses are redacted and generalised in your browser before transmission. Names become placeholders like [PERSON_1], and specific conditions like 'ADHD' become functional descriptions like 'attention regulation needs'. Because identifiable student data never leaves your device, GDPR Article 9 (Special Category Data) restrictions don't apply to our server-side processing. See our Privacy Whitepaper for the full technical explanation.

Can I use SENScribe on my school network?

Yes. SENScribe is a web-based tool that works in any modern browser. Our zero-knowledge architecture means student names never leave the browser, so there's no identifiable student data to protect on our end - making compliance straightforward. Share our Privacy Whitepaper with your Principal or DPO for approval.

Using SENScribe

How do I use SENScribe?

Simply enter your informal observations about a student (e.g., 'struggles with reading, gets frustrated easily'), select the support level, and click generate. SENScribe transforms your notes into professional, NCSE-aligned language that's ready for your Student Support File.

Can I copy the output into Aladdin or VSware?

Yes! SENScribe is designed to work alongside your existing school management system. The generated text is formatted for easy copying into Aladdin, VSware, or any other system. No formatting issues, no character limit problems.

Do I still need to review the generated content?

Absolutely. SENScribe provides draft language to save you time, but you are the professional who knows the student. Always review, edit, and approve the content before including it in official documentation. SENScribe assists your professional judgement, not replaces it.

How many Student Support Files can I generate?

Free accounts include 3 drafts so you can evaluate SENScribe. After that, grab a lifetime deal for unlimited drafts - one payment, no subscription. Contact us if you need a school licence.
